| Spanish court rules in favour of legal proceedings against 27 Polisario members charged with genocide Madrid – W M A Friday, June 12, 2009 A Spanish court in Madrid has ruled in favour of starting legal proceedings against 27 Polisario representatives accused of perpetrating acts of genocide following a complaint lodged by a Sahraoui human rights organisation on 26 December 2007. The ruling has been issued recently by the central investigative court, the highest judicial body in Spain. The case was referred to the said court by the prosecutor, Losiano Rosca Nadale. The ruling aims at establishing the facts and the responsibility of the accused. In this regard, the court has issued a request for legal assistance to the Algerian judicial authorities in relation to the accused in question. The writ is aimed at establishing as to whether the said criminal acts have been investigated and/or whether there has been a prosecution and whether similar rulings against the accused have been executed in Morocco. According to the judicial ruling, the legal proceedings concern the following: Sayed Ahmed Al Batal, Sidi Wakkak, Al Khalil Ahmed, Ibrahim Ghali, Khandoud Mohammed, Abdelwadoud Al Feeri, Mohammed Salim Assanoussi, Ibrahim Biyadillah, Mahjoub linkoulin, Mohammed Lamine Al Bouhali, Idda Hamouam, Ahmadi Bad, Ali Daba, Al Bachir Mostapha Aid, Mohammed Khaddad, Nouloud Linson, Mohammed Haniyya, Mohammed Ali Haniyya, Loucha Abid, Mouloudi Didi, Mahfoudh Hamniya Douihi, Mohammed Fadlin, General Al Ammari, Qaddour Nabil, Nadim Bennaser, Mahfoudh and Abderrahman Bouh. The list includes three Algerians. The Sahraoui human rights organisation had lodged a complaint with the Spanish Justice on charges of perpetrating acts of genocide against leaders in the Polisario Front, especially Ibrahim Ghali who was representing the separatists then in Madrid. Fearing his arrest by the Spanish authorities, he was immediately called in back to Algeria and was subsequently replaced. Translated from Hespress - 12 June 09 | |
